(DES MOINES)—When the Friday deadline to file to run in this year’s June primary passed, 108 Republicans had filed to be on the ballot. Covering 88 seats, Republicans lead recruitment over the Democrats’ 75 seats.
“I’m pleased with the slate of candidates that we will have on the ballot in June. The amount of Republicans on the ballot is very telling about the mood of Iowans,” said House Republican Leader Kraig Paulsen. “People are tired of the rampant spending, out of control government and increased taxes. When Republicans take back the majority, we stand ready to repeal the property tax increases enacted by Gov. Culver and legislative Democrats.”
There are 38 Republican incumbents running. Currently in the House there are 44 Republicans and 56 Democrats.
“The most dangerous place to be on Election Day will be between a Republican and a ballot box,” said Paulsen.
