I’m With Stupid
We are all with stupid.
It’s because we elected stupid as our Governor…
Governor Culver is all excited because the state’s revenue for July 2009 was $4.7 million above what it was at the same time last year. While gross tax receipts are up 1.2%, the non-partisan Legislative Services Agency says that net receipts are down 6.1%. The LSA also says that the increase in sales tax receipts was due to the change from a local option school infrastructure tax to a statewide school infrastructure tax.
Governor Culver, who is responsible for creating a $1 BILLION budget gap for next year’s budget, did acknowledge is his press release that the state continues to have a negative growth rate. So the question that begs to be asked is, how on earth does Governor Culver plan to balance next year’s budget when the state is still experiencing negative growth? I understand that Culver is need of some good economic news, but his statements on the financial wellbeing of our state are becoming embarrassing.
Since Culver and his staff don’t like the numbers provided by the LSA, they just say they are wrong. The Culver administration also celebrated when they plunged the state into debt for Culver’s I-Jobs scheme. Remember how excited they were to get their AA rating. That’s like some dude celebrating a low interest rate on his credit card that he just maxed out. It’s not a good thing!
Culver also eluded that his I-Jobs scheme is working. Really? To date I-Jobs has doled out some cash to for a few projects in Cedar Rapids, but unless you are going to work in the new concession stand in the Paramount Theater in Cedar Rapids, that money will not create any permanent jobs.
The bad news is that it’s becoming clear that Governor Culver doesn’t have a clue when it comes to the fiscal crisis facing our state. The good news is we can send Culver home next November. But until then, we are stuck with stupid.
