rpi-logoDarrell Kearney, long-time Finance Director for the Republican Party of Iowa, today announced his retirement from the Party. Kearney will remain with the Party as a part-time contract employee to assist in the transition of his successor. Kearney said, “I truly love the Iowa GOP and my decade working for Party has been the most rewarding of my life. Our new leadership team has brought new life to this great Party and I leave my full-time role confident in our continued success.”

Matt Strawn, Chairman of the Republican Party of Iowa said, “Darrell Kearney is an institution in Republican politics, and all Iowa Republicans owe Darrell a debt of gratitude for a job well done over the last ten years. I will always be grateful for his willingness to delay his retirement and assist me in my transition to the role of State Chairman. Darrell is a great friend, a faithful servant to his Party and our principles, and I wish him well.”

Strawn also announced the hiring of Angela Tangen, of Ankeny, as the Iowa GOP’s new Finance Director. Tangen brings to the Iowa GOP a successful career in non-profit development and political fundraising. Strawn said, “Angela Tangen is an exceptionally talented individual who will bring a fresh new approach to our efforts to both renew and expand our donor base. She has a breadth of relevant, successful experience and will join our team of professionals in our on-going effort to assemble the most potent political organization in Iowa. Through Angela’s leadership, I’m confident we will take our development programs to levels that will translate into success at the ballot box for our candidates.”

Tangen’s career includes extensive non-profit work with Lutheran Homes & Services and with the Boys and Girls Clubs. Her political experience includes high-level finance and development work for numerous federal campaigns in Minnesota.

Both Kearney’s retirement and Tangen’s appointment are effective Tuesday, September 1.

Strawn noted the Iowa GOP was planning an appropriate event to honor Kearney’s decade of service to the Republican Party of Iowa. Strawn joked, “In true Darrell Kearney fashion, our event to honor Darrell’s service will be a fundraiser for the Republican Party of Iowa. Darrell wouldn’t have it any other way.”
