Patty Judge’s 12-week Fitness Challenge

chet-at-fairIowa Lt. Governor Patty Judge says all she has to do is walk down the hall peek in to Chet’s office to see that Iowa’s Governor is heavier, less physically-fit than he was just a year ago.

All right, she didn’t say that about Culver, but she did say that about Iowans. Maybe I’m the only one who thought it was odd that, once again, the Culver/Judge administration is talking about getting healthy. A year ago, Culver himself was talking about getting fit when promoting “Lighten Up Iowa.” How did that turn out Chet? Silence…

Last year, Chet implied that he was trying to get down to his fighting weight of 220 pounds, the same weight he was when he was a tight end at Virginia Tech. It’s likely that if he were to be in the lineup today he would be at left tackle. I guess he just couldn’t swing getting up at 4:30 in the morning to work out when he was out drinking beers with Bill Knapp the night before.

Iowans shouldn’t be surprised to learn that the Governor talked a good game about getting healthy, but actually packed on the pounds. It’s just the way Culver is, and we need to accept it.

Here is how you translate Chet:

“I want to get my body fat down” means “I’m going to do that liquid diet where you drink beer and eat bar food.”

“I will cut the budget” means “Surprise, surprise. While revenues are in the tank, I’ve actually signed in to law the largest budget in Iowa’s history!”

“Now is not the time to raise taxes” means “We are going to eliminate federal deductibility which would raise taxes on thousands Iowans in year in year one, and then soak everyone in year two.”

Can Iowans really believe anything this guy says? This is getting ridiculous.

Speaking about ridiculous…

I see that Iowa GOP chairman Matt Strawn was in Le Mars last night. One would have thought he might have traveled to NW Iowa just the day before when FOX News and a bunch other media affiliates were in town for Senator Ensign’s visit.

Seriously, the Ensign trip was on the books for months in advance, what a wasted opportunity. I’m sure someone like Carl Cameron would have found the time to ask the RPI chairman his thoughts about Ensign’s visit, which would have allowed him the opportunity to promote RPI’s event with Haley Barbour later this month.

Missed opportunity if you ask me. Go figure.
