Obama, Embryos & Ethics – How Many Times Can the President Say He is a Man of Faith While Promoting Baby Killing?

So, it looks like we’re well on our way to a culture of death, and our dear President Obama (a/k/a Barack Obabykiller) is leading the way.

Yesterday, Obama rescinded George W. Bush’s executive order prohibiting the use of federal funds to pay for embryonic stem cell research on new lines of stem cells. This means that all existing stem cell lines (even those outside of the 22 existing lines for which Bush allowed federal funding) are now eligible for public funding.

I also believe that this is an end-run around the Dickey-Wicker amendment which prohibits federal funding for procedures that would create or destroy embryos. Now, if you can manage to slice the embryo open and extract the stem cells with private funds, you can then move it to the lab next door and continue your experiments using tax dollars. This puts us in the position where embryos can be created for the sole purpose of being destroyed. And your tax dollars will be providing the impetus for such destruction and paying for the further experimentation on these little lives.

I find this to be ridiculous when medicine has not fully explored or exhausted the possibilities of adult stem cells. I’ve also seen data indicating that the “leftover” embryos from in vitro procedures will provide nowhere near the number of embryos wanted for research purposes, so creating embryos for the sole purpose of being cut up is fairly certain to happen.

Oh, and for all of you who still deny there is no bias in the media, I found a really helpful explanation of all of this on a PBS website. It’s not one-sided at all. That article referred to these embryos as something the size of a grain of sand. U.S. Rep. Steve King, on the other hand, referred to these embryos a little differently.

“I have held babies in my arms who had been frozen embryos for as long as nine years. They giggle, cuddle, laugh, play and love. They are as much a human being as any of us.”

All this comes just days after Obama rescinded another order which allowed healthcare providers who were morally opposed to abortion to not be punished for refusing to participate in the procedure.

AND, don’t forget that we still have the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) looming on the horizon. This bill would basically rescind any and all state-imposed restrictions such as parental notification, informed consent, and short-term waiting periods for abortions. I found an interesting article recently stating that the Catholic Church will seriously consider closing all 624 Catholic hospitals in the United States if FOCA passes.

I hope Obama knows the can of worms that he is opening here. I think the public in general tolerates abortion because they think it is rare and they think there are some common sense restrictions in place. If abortions becomes an all-out free-for-all with liberal Europe having more restrictions than the United State, I truly believe there will be a public outcry.
