I’m not one of those people who is willing to cut a politician a break for identity politics reasons. Hence, despite the fact that Nancy Pelosi is a historical figure (the first female Speaker of the House), I just can’t let it slide when she does stupid stuff… which tends to happen a lot.
I was reading the Register’s report of Pelosi’s visit, and I just couldn’t help but make snarky comments to myself as I read.
“State education leaders met with Pelosi, D-Calif., for about an hour Saturday afternoon at Amos Hiatt Middle School. As Pelosi largely listened, they explained how the $580 million Iowa is slated to receive in education stimulus funding has saved jobs and other programs statewide.”
Largely listened? Probably because she usually has to put her foot in her mouth when she opens it. That’s what happens when a politician doesn’t know what they’re talking about (hence the “I knew nothing about enhanced interrogation techniques despite the fact I was briefed on it in front of witnesses” thing).
Success in Congress? Are you kidding me? Last I checked, Congress’s approval ratings are still in the dumper. People just don’t like giving billions to companies like GM, only to have them go bankrupt, which is what should have happened a few months and a few billion dollars ago.
“Earlier in the day, Pelosi, a California Democrat, headlined a fundraiser for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee at the home of Roxanne Conlin , a lawyer and former Iowa Democratic Party chairwoman.”
Well, that’s nice. It’s good to know Roxanne has a pastime to keep her busy when she’s not helping the U of I’s rapist-athletes get off with “negotiated” punishments from the university. I wonder if Nancy knows she was hosted by a woman who helped a rapist get away with a slap on the wrist. So much for having a sister’s back.
I’m sorry. I just can’t take this woman or her visit to Iowa seriously. I hope she makes it back to D.C. sooner than later without doing any more damage than she’s already done. We’ve got enough problems with spend-happy Democrats in this state. We don’t need any more.
