I mentioned yesterday that Jason Clayworth announced on his Facebook page recently that he got engaged to his partner Joe. I’m sure this is a common occurrence with many same-sex couples in Iowa following the Supreme Court’s decision to allow gay marriage.
The issue I have with Mr. Clayworth isn’t the fact that he’s a homosexual. It’s that, for years, he has been a Des Moines Register’s political reporter covering issues such as Iowa’s Defense of Marriage Act, the recent Supreme Court case, and now the effort to pass a marriage amendment.
To be honest, I don’t even have a problem with him being a political reporter. I just think that when a reporter has a severe bias on a certain issue, the reader should know that the “news” they are reading is being filtered by a particular bias. It is disappointing that the Des Moines Register would assign a reporter with such a bias to cover such a significant news story. The fact that Clayworth is a member of the Facebook group, “I Support The Unanimous Iowa Supreme Court Ruling – Gay Marriage,” ought to disqualify him from writing about that issue in the Register ever again.
Just yesterday, Clayworth did a story about House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s position on the passing of a marriage amendment in the Iowa House. Clayworth has written or contributed to a number of stories that dealt with homosexuality over the years. Below are some examples.

I find it funny that the traditional media like the Register ridicules blogs and on-line news sites because they state their bias from the get-go. The Des Moines Register has hidden the fact that Clayworth is a homosexual from its readers for years. They owe their readers an apology because what they thought was straight up political reporting, was tainted by Clayworth’s worldview.
