Huckabee has Iowa on his Mind

huckFormer Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee is scheduled to be in Iowa on June 10th to speak at the Iowa Associate of Business and Industry conference, and he is also planning to headline a fundraiser for presumptive Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob Vander Plaats.

But, it seems as if Huck is doing a little prep work in advance to his trip to Iowa.

Mike Huckabee Endorsed Senator Chuck Grassley

Now this isn’t earth shattering news, but the timing is interesting. Sure it’s right before Huckabee comes to Iowa, but it’s also before Grassley has to vote on Obama’s Supreme Court nominee and deal with Obama’s socialized medicine proposal. Endorsing Grassley is a safe thing to do politically, but some of Huckabee’s most vocal supporters have been critical of Grassley.

Kevin Tracy, a pro-Huckabee blogger, thinks his endorsement of Grassley was a “strategic masterpiece that will help us take back the White House in 2012.” As you have all known for a long time now, I don’t think endorsements are worth anything. This is especially true with endorsing someone like Grassley. Grassley doesn’t really need any endorsements since his approval rating in the state hovers around 70%.

Huckabee’s endorsement isn’t going to lead to Grassley backing him publically in 2012, because he rarely does things like that. Huckabee’s endorsement of Grassley would be like Governor Chet Culver endorsing Obama after the Iowa Caucuses. Wait… that happened.

Huck PAC Surveys their Iowa Supporters about Vander Plaats

A Krustacean emailed me last night to tell me they have been surveyed. Here are the questions the caller with a thick southern accent asked.

What issue is the most important to address right now? The Krustacean answered marriage and budget issues. The caller said many people had mentioned both of these. Shocker!

Are you familiar with Bob? The Krustacean answered yes. (He’s been running almost a decade)

Can he count on your support? The Krustacean said its way to early to line up behind a candidate. (Plus he hasn’t formally announced.)

Caller gave website: www.

The Krustacean asked “Are you volunteering, calling from Iowa?” Caller answered: Can’t say for security reasons. Or maybe the caller just didn’t want to answer because her thick southern accent had already given her away. The caller did say there were 5 or 6 people making phone calls. (Security Reasons?)

Looks like maybe HuckPAC is combing through their supporters to see which ones support Vander Plaats.

I’ll Endorse Bob Vander Plaats if…

Mike Huckbee dedicates a song to me while at the Vander Plaats event in Okoboji on the 10th. Now, I think that’s only fair. As Barbara Mandrell once said, I was Huckabee, when Huckabee wasn’t cool. I mean, while Steve Deace was doing weekly interviews with John Cox, I was naming Mike Huckabee as my breakout candidate of 2007. I made that prediction a full year before the caucuses.

One little song isn’t too much to ask, is it? Oh, and YouTube it!
