gordanfischer-for-webGordon’s Campaign to be US Attorney came up short.

I had a good laugh a month or so ago when Gordon Fischer, former Chairman of the Iowa Democratic Party, attorney, and blogger, was actively campaigning to be the next United States Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa. This past weekend, Senator Harkin made it known that he was going to forward Nick Klinefeldt as the person he wants to see as the next US Attorney for the Southern District.

Back when Gordon announced his campaign, I noted that I didn’t think it was a good idea to have a political operative, a guy who has run the day to day operations of the Iowa Democrat Party, and who obviously has a political bias, serve in such a highly regarded capacity.

Gordon has a tendency to stick his foot in his mouth. During the Iowa Caucuses he had to apologize for saying, “This is a stain on his legacy, much worse, much deeper, than the one on Monica’s blue dress.” Gordon was referring to Clinton questioning Obama’s patriotism.

Now, I can understand why Gordon would want to be considered, but this is the downside of blogging and putting your opinions out there. If your goal in life is to be a respected attorney who might someday be the US Attorney, then being party chairman and an outspoken blogger isn’t a good career decision.

For as much as I enjoy picking on my friend Gordon, I miss his blog and hope this means the return of Iowa True Blue. I need someone to tussle with…
