Corbett to Officially Announce his Candidacy for Mayor of Cedar Rapids

corbettRon Corbett plans to announce his candidacy for Cedar Rapids Mayor tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. Corbett is currently the Vice President of Human Resources for CRST International, a Cedar Rapids based trucking company.

Corbett defeated in Paul Pate in a primary for State Representative in 1986. He was elected Speaker of the House in 1995 when he defeated Speaker of the House Harold Van Mannan. The deciding vote in the leadership elections was cast by then-State Rep. Mary Lundby. Corbett vacated the Speaker’s chair mid-term in 1999 when he left the Iowa House to head up the Cedar Rapids Chamber of Commerce.

In 2005, Corbett successfully led the initiative to change the structure of government in Cedar Rapids from a Commission form of government to a Home Rule form of Government. The initiative once again pitted Corbett against then Mayor of Cedar Rapids Paul Pate, who saw his full time job as mayor eliminated.

Robinson utilizes his fundraising and communications background to service Global’s growing client roster with digital and print marketing. Robinson is a native of Goose Lake, Iowa, and a 1999 graduate of St. Ambrose University in Davenport, where he earned degrees in history and political science. Robinson lives in Ankeny, Iowa, with his wife, Amanda, and son, Luke. He is an active member of the Lutheran Church of Hope.
