palinSo, I see that a lot of liberal media types (and a few vengeful Republicans) have their undies in a bundle over the latest Sarah Palin ethics probe.

Apparently, some people are upset because she set up a legal defense fund to help pay her $500,000 in legal fees she has accumulated in defending herself against dozens of other ethical complaints, all of which have been politically motivated and frivolous.

So basically, all her enemies file all these complaints against her, and now they say she can’t ask for donations to pay for the fees associated with defending against them. I think their goal is to bankrupt her.

The basis of the complaint is that she is using her public position to get donations for this legal defense fund.

Forgive me for pointing out the obvious, but she wouldn’t need a legal defense fund if it weren’t for her public position. So is it really fair to deny her the ability to defend herself?

The other thing that I find to be interesting is that this investigation found that there was “probable cause” to believe that there “may” have been an ethical violation. Not exactly a final conclusion of absolute wrongdoing.

I also find it interesting that the person who filed this complaint, Kim Chatman, is no stranger to legally harassing Sarah Palin. Chatman is also a plaintiff in a federal lawsuit filed against Sarah Palin for Palin’s failing to issue a 2007 Juneteenth Proclamation. While that might be an oversight (Palin said it was an inadvertent oversight), that’s hardly a reason for a federal lawsuit. But this woman apparently has an ax to grind.

Sarah Palin certainly has her faults, but those faults generally consist of not dealing well with the media, not ethics problems. Why anyone is taking this seriously is beyond me.

By the way, Bill Clinton had a pretty significant legal defense fund (or two), and I don’t remember anyone making a stink about that. But he was a man… and a Democrat… so I guess that makes it okay for him.

And once again, Sarah Palin is treated differently.
