Republican gubernatorial candidate Rod Roberts and his wife Trish send the following Christmas greetings to Iowans:
“For many of us, Christmas is truly the most wonderful time of the year. Nothing is better for Trish and me than to be able to share Christmas with our children, grandchildren, and members of our extended family. After a busy 2009, we are looking forward to spending time exchanging gifts, enjoying our favorite home-cooked Christmas recipes, and visiting with friends and loved ones as we celebrate the day that marks Jesus’s birth.
“For many Iowa families, however, Christmas can be a difficult time. News of record unemployment rates and a sluggish economy may make this a particularly difficult Christmas for many Iowans. Further, many Iowans are bravely serving our country overseas this holiday season, which means that many of these military men and women will be unable to enjoy Christmas with their families. We should keep these Iowans in our thoughts and prayers this December. Say ‘thank you’ to the families of our military men and women, and give a word of support to friends and family who may be experiencing difficult financial times. A pat on the back and words of encouragement could go a long way toward making this a brighter holiday season for many Iowans.”
“So as we gather in our homes this Christmas, let’s enjoy our precious time with friends and family, give our support to struggling Iowans, and continue to remember the reason why we celebrate this season. From our family to yours, we wish you a very Merry Christmas.”
